Volunteer Arms

5 Watson Street, York

Tel: 01904 623068

Nestled down a side street of one of York’s busy main roads lies The Volunteer Arms in all of it’s renewed splendour. But there’s something happening... a strange feeling in the air as, from the sign high above the building – watching the daily comings and goings – the Volunteer Soldier prepares to launch his offensive to win over the hearts and minds of all those in York, wherever they may be drinking.

Always a local’s Pub with its many teams (from Darts and Dominos to Pool), the aim as 2008 begins to rapidly draw to a close is to make everyone feel welcome and part of a 'band of brothers (and sisters!)' who call The Volunteer Arms (or Vollies as its affectionately known) THEIR local. Whether you want to watch live sporting matches in High Definition on Plasma Screens, dance the night away at the weekend, or just relax with a drink after work there’s something for you.

Not only have drinks prices been lowered substantially (Fosters on draught is £2 for example, and Guinness is £2.30), some great promotions put on ("Treble Up!"), and the new sound system installed which turns Vollies into the place to be every Friday & Saturday, but over the coming months we'll be hosting Karaoke, inviting guest DJs to try out our equipment to the max, putting on some well known bands, and setting up an Open Mic Night. There’s one thing for certain, there are plenty more ideas up our sleeve yet!

Being the Landlord of a pub at 21 may seem like a disadvantage to some, and indeed unheard of to others, but I feel that I can add enthusiasm and creativity that will make my pub stand out, especially in light of the "credit crunch". We know it's hard, but with prices like ours you needn’t stay in – come visit us instead.
