The origins of The Danish Kitchen go way back to October 1978 when we opened our first Danish Kitchen in High Ousegate, York.

The shop was previously occupied by a shoe retailer and Danish Kitchens founder Colin Gibbons and Audrey his wife, both coming with over 30 years experience in the Hotel and Catering Trade in Scarborough.

Not long after opening they were joined by their son Anthony who was trained in Hotel Management with a large hotel group. The idea of a Danish Kitchen had proved successful for the Gibbons family in Scarborough and they brought their wealth and knowledge to York.

In those early days they as they do now prepare all the food freshly on the premises using only Danish products where possible. We offer a mouthwatering selection of cakes and pastries.Also light lunches including salads, quiches, jacket potatoes, toasted sandwiches and omelettes are served throughout the day..

In 1991 we moved to new bigger premises right next door to the original location which enabled us to extend the seating capacity to over 88 seats. In the new premises a conservatory area is the new feature of the present premises which resembles a street scene and is a very popular seating area of the business with its light and airy feel.
