A MULTI-AWARD winning brewery from just outside York struck gold at Britain’s most prestigious beer festival.
Rudgate Brewery, from Tockwith, won the mild category at the Champion Beer of Britain awards at the Great British Beer Festival in London today.
It is the latest in a series of awards for the beer, which won silver in the same category last year and gold in the overall champion award in 2009.
Rudgate managing director Craig Lee said: “I was so nervous waiting for the results - it was like at school, waiting for GCSE results. They announced the bronze and silver and I turned to my mate and said “It’s all or bust now” - and then we won gold. It was amazing - it’s just brilliant.”
The overall champion beer award went to Coniston Brewery’s No 9 Barley Wine.
