Beer drinkers spoilt for choice

BEER lovers in the region are spoilt for choice this weekend and next, with a range of special events.

The Waggon and Horses in Lawrence Street in York, the city’s Camra pub of the year, has its annual festival this weekend, with a wide range of beers and live music.

The House of the Trembling Madness in Stonegate has a festival on Friday and Saturday at the neighbouring Belfrey Hall, with local bands and beers from young breweries. Proceeds go to the NSPCC/Childline, with a suggested entry donation of £5.

Next Saturday, the famous brewing town of Tadcaster hosts what is believed to be its first beer festival, from noon at the Tadcaster Social Club. Again, there will be live music as well.

Entry is £5, including a program, free drink, glass and a discount on fish and chips.

The same day, the Guy Francis Bone Cancer Research Fund is holding a festival at Pool Bridge Farm, Crockey Hill, from 3pm. Entry is £15, including six half pints, a bottle of the commemorative My Guy beer, and a glass. Mr Francis, of Wheldrake, died ten years ago.

This Saturday’s Selby Beer Festival has already sold out.
