Beer garden plan for York Tap pub
7:56am Wednesday 11th July 2012 in Pints of View
A REAL-ALE pub is to open a beer garden to liven up part of York Railway Station.
The York Tap opened in November in the northern part of the station which was in decline, said Jamie Hawksworth, director of Pivovar, the pub company which invested £250,000 into the refurbishment of the former tearooms.
He said: “Part of the deal was to make sure the outside was as important as the inside. We have been really keen that we get it right.
“When anyone comes in off any southbound trains from the north that building is the first thing that they will see.”
The beer garden, located at the pub’s entrance on platform three, has been designed by David Turner, a 22-year-old graduate of York St John University who owns Scruffy Dog Design, and who works in the pub as a barman.

It's not a bad place but check the prices first. It cost me over 7 quid for a bottle of beer!

You want to get out more. The 'Bernard' beer I referred to IS a Lager!

The only request I have of the York Tap is please do your best and make the toilets not smell like a ripe hamster cage.

It would actually Smudge, I liked the looks of the bottle and asked for it. The barman pulled the cap off then told me the price. I was too stunned/embarrassed to tell him where to stick it! I later learned it was a speciality beer but a price list might have warned me.

Brilliantr, another place to be overrun with loud drunken geordies. Also it's illegal to park bicycles outside as some of my friends found out. Got removed by the BTP and almost got blown up becuase of terrorism risks.

There's always Cooper's next door if you fancy a pint of something you could get anywhere.
Good service in pleasant surroundings. A monitor displaying train times would be useful. 'Bernard' Lager isn' t to everyones taste. At least one recognisable brand to compliment the 'real ale' beers would surely improve sales and throughput.

Peterwalker wrote:How much bloody broader do you want the range? 20 real ales and a choice of continental and British keg products, supplemented by a wide range of bottled beers from across the globe not enough for you? Get to Cooper's for Carling.
Coopers is a dump, that' s why I tried next door. All I suggested was that a broader range of products may attract additional custom. Real ale is all well and good but not to everyone' s taste. I' d like to see the new bar succeed but I won't be visiting again until the range of products is extended.

the people want carling and john's, not this foreign c**p they churn out for a fortune.
