Village pub reopens but without alcohol

A VILLAGE pub has reopened – but without the beer on tap.

The Moors Inn at Appleton-le-Moors is being run again by the Frank family, who own the pub, but are unable to serve alcohol for a month due to a hitch with the licence.

Janet Frank, who is a Ryedale district councillor, said they had bought the Moors Inn in 1999 but it had been leased to a tenant since 2009.

However, because the premise’s licence has not been signed over, the pub had to apply for a new one, which takes 28 days.

Mrs Frank said: “We will be selling non-alcoholic drinks only. However, customers are welcome to bring their own alcohol, until the licensing hitch can be sorted. The pub will be open every day, serving home-cooked lunches and evening meals, and offering B&B accommodation.”

Mrs Frank said they felt it was important for the Moors Inn to stay open for the sake of the staff and they had employed a new deputy manager Adam Kendall, who would take on the day-to-day running of the pub.

She said: “The existing staff are all keeping their jobs, including bar manager Guy Richardson and cook Dawn Burton. This is one reason why I am opening without a licence, as I didn’t want them to be without work for a month before re-launching the pub. Various theme nights are planned once the pub gets its licence, including an opening night on May 18 to celebrate.”

OMG how stupid is it that this takes 28 days to sort out, and we pay these idiots a wage to do these dutys.

all it should take is for a man/woman to visit it, and get something signed etc and hand over a licence.

Well at least there is one RDC Councillor who should fully understand the issues facing the running/selling of a Village Pub.
Lets hope that she gets the full support and patronage of "RYEDALES SAVE OUR VILLAGE PUBS BRIGADE"

I think you might find that the Licensing Act 2003 has something to say about it.
