Wetherspoons will create up to 40 jobs in Selby

PUB giant JD Wetherspoon has been given the go-ahead for a £1 million plan to open its first outlet in Selby.
Selby District Council has granted planning permission for the company to convert the former Everatts furniture store in Gowthorpe, which closed in October after 75 years.
The company has said the scheme could create up to 40 jobs.
Work can start right away, but following complaints from a number of residents living in nearby Milton Place, who claimed the new pub would turn the area into “Blackpool Illuminations”, a number of restrictions have been put in place.
When agreeing to the plans, the council stated any delivery and the loading or unloading of goods must take place after 8am and no later than 6pm on weekdays, and between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays, with no deliveries on Sundays or bank holidays “in the interests of protecting the residential amenity of neighbouring properties”.
Use of the beer garden, which will be created to the rear of the pub, has also been restricted to no earlier than 11am and no later than 9pm on Monday to Saturdays for the same reason. A letter from the council granting the application, stated “The proposal is considered to preserve the character of the conservation area and would bring a heritage asset back in to use.”
The pub could open as early as 7am every day and close as late as 1.30am on Thursdays and Saturdays.
