A FORMER York journalist, now a vicar in Hull, has welcomed real ale lovers into his church for a beer festival, saying he thought it was the kind of event Jesus would have enjoyed.
The Hull Real Ale and Cider Festival is being held at Holy Trinity Church, in the city centre. It is the first time in the event's 34-year history it has been held in a church.
Pioneer minister the Rev Matt Woodcock, a former reporter with The Press, said: “I think Jesus was all about people engaging in their everyday lives and wasn’t someone who would have expected people to come into some big holy moment.
“He went out to them, he went where the people were, he was constantly at parties, he was at weddings, and I absolutely believe he would have been here with a glass of real ale in his hand, talking to people about what really matters in life.”
The festival is expected to see 5,500 pints consumed over the next three days.
