THE chef of an East Yorkshire pub has battered the competition - be be named the best Yorkshire Pudding maker in the whole region.

Ben Cox, head chef at The Star at Sancton, was chosen by a panel of top food writers, to see off three other well-known chefs from across Yorkshire.

Ben said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that my Yorkshire Puddings were judged to be the best!

“The Yorkshire Pudding is the cornerstone of a traditional Yorkshire Sunday lunch and I pride myself on making a really fantastic one, but it’s an honour to get recognition from such well-respected food writers.”

The puddings were judged by Elaine Lemm, Mandy Wragg and Jill Turton.

Ben was up against Tim Bilton from The Butcher’s Arms at Hepworth in West Yorkshire; Stephanie Moon from Rudding Park near Harrogate in North Yorkshire; and James Wallace from The Milestone in Sheffield, South Yorkshire in The Great Yorkshire Pudding Challenge. The contest was organised and hosted by The Cooking School at Dean Clough near Halifax.
