York MP Hugh Bayley takes a look behind the scenes at the City Screen cinema with general manager Tony Clarke
MP and cinema buff Hugh Bayley has been on a behind-the-scenes tour of York’s City Screen cinema to see for himself its role in bringing employment and enjoyment to local residents.
The York Central MP said cinema was a major contributor to the UK economy, directly employing some 17,500 people across the country and typically putting as much as two-thirds of their total annual expenditure on local goods and services.
His visit comes ahead of a busy Easter weekend for cinemas across the UK, with families expected to flock to see the hit movie new movie by Aardman Animations, The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists, pictured inset, and teens still clamouring to see The Hunger Games.
“I have always enjoyed visiting the cinema and it’s good to see how cinemas have developed,” said Mr Bayley, who once ran a company making documentary programmes. “Digital technology has improved the production quality of film and enhanced the cinema experience for film lovers.”
