A FILM commissioned by York Museums’ Trust showcasing the impact of an African Roman Emperor on York will be shown at City Screen on Tuesday as a prelude to York Roman Festival.

Severus & The City (PG) will explore York’s Roman heritage, including that of Septimius Severus, who died in the city 1,800 years ago.

It will look at the influence he had on the city’s culture and the legacy of this on people today – including interviews with people ranging from historians to hairdressers.

The film has been made by media students from York College with Digifish Media Productions and The Yorkshire Museum’s Precious Cargo, which is part of Stories Of The World, a project of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

The 45-minute film will be accompanied by a second film, Transient (PG), a short documentary about a fashion collection created by up-and-coming young designers from York.
