• THE Tuesday Special show at City Screen, York, will be South Korean director Joon-ho-Bong’s Mother (15).

One of the hot tickets at the Cannes festival, it is a twisted and disturbing tale of a single mother who fights to clear the name of her son, who has been accused of murder. Hye-ja Kim, a big star in Korea, synonymous with playing endlessly tolerant and loving mothers, subverts her image with a revolutionary performance.

Tickets for Tuesday’s 8.40pm screening are available on 0871 902 5726 or picturehouses.co.uk

• THE Picturehouse Docs programme at City Screen, York, will give three screenings to Robert Cibis and Lilian Franck’s Austrian-German documentary Pianomania (PG).

The cameras follow Stefan Knupfer, right, Steinway and Sons’ master tuner in Vienna, as he works with some of the world’s best known concert pianists: Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Lang Lang and Alfred Brendel. Combining rehearsal and concert footage, the film reveals the art, the science and the passion behind the quest for sonic perfection.

Pianomania will be shown at 1pm on Sunday, 5.30pm on Monday and 3.30pm on Thursday.
