CITY Screen, York, is teaming up with ghost walker extraordinaire Trevor Rooney to deliver his nightly walkers to the Coney Street cinema in time for the late-evening screenings of the newly released A Ghost Story.

"The Ghost Tour of York will be leaving The Evil Eye on Stonegate at 7pm," says Trevor. "I really like the sound of the film A Ghost Story. We will thoroughly entertain you on the walk before arriving at City Screen and by the time you get there you'll definitely be in the mood for the film."

Opening at City Screen today for a week's run, A Ghost Story (12A) is the latest film from Ain’t Them Bodies Saints and Pete’s Dragon director David Lowery, who presents a singular exploration of legacy, loss, and the essential human longing for meaning and connection.

A white-sheeted ghost (Casey Affleck) returns to his suburban home to console his bereft wife (Rooney Mara), only to find that in his spectral state he has become unstuck in time, forced to watch passively as the life he knew and the woman he loves slip slowly away. Increasingly untethered, the ghost embarks on a cosmic journey through memory and history, confronting life’s ineffable questions and the enormousness of existence.

Dave Taylor, City Screen's marketing manager, says: "The ghost in the film isn't a scary apparition at all. He's a sad little fellow lost in eternity. As Trevor and I posed for photos in the graveyard of St Martin-le-Grand and in The Basement at the cinema, it made me think of the printers and journalists who worked on the site where City Screen is now housed.

"They do say that there is a greater incidence of sightings of ghosts near water, and the newsprint used to be delivered by river barge to the Yorkshire Herald and later the Yorkshire Evening Press."

Tickets for A Ghost Story can be booked on 0871 902 5726, at picturehouses.co.uk or in person at the City Screen box office.
