YORK dance artist Sam Lawrence will present the premiere of her new short dance film, Steady Past Your Grandma While She's Dancing, at the National Centre for Early Music, in Walmgate, on Friday night.
"The film celebrates the four generations of women in my family who all in their own way dance, including my 97-year-old Grandma, as well as my mum and my daughter," says Sam, who runs Sam Lawrence Dance.
"The premiere is in partnership with the Arts Barge and includes 1940s' music from the Blind Tiger Swing Dance Band, plus an inclusive fun dance workshop that everyone can do and is open to all ages.
"In the spirit of the film, we want the event to be intergenerational and are encouraging people to bring their kids, grandparents, etcetera, to do a turn."
The premiere will start at 7pm and the film will be screened at 7.30pm. Tickets will be available on the door at £5 or £2 for residents of Guildhall Ward with proof of address; free admission for children under 12.
