CITY Screen, York, has two events this weekend to mark the opening of the seventh Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens.

"We're keen for youngsters to be able to take delight in the launch of the new Star Wars film, The Force Awakens, even though it's ten years since the last film was out and three decades since Return Of The Jedi, which the new film follows," says marketing manager Dave Taylor.

"The fun at Saturday's Kids' Club starts at 10.30am with fun and games and the chance to win Star Wars goodies, all beautifully boxed. The movie that follows at 11.45am will be the Christmas-themed Home Alone, starring Macaulay Culkin in the 1990 film that made his name as a young star."

In the second event, a Minifigs and Bricks Star Wars Lego speed-build competition will be held from 10.30am to 4.30pm on Saturday and Sunday. "The Basement at City Screen is to host an amazing Lego display this weekend featuring Star Wars craft and figures." says Dave.

Peter Brookdale, a Lego model creator who specialises in building large-scale Star Wars models, will visit the show on Saturday and display some of his latest models over the weekend.

Minifigs & Bricks, the world’s smallest Lego shop, based in York, will display a variety of Star Wars sets produced by Lego, as well as hundreds of collectible minifigures from the Lego range over the past 16 years.

Dave Kirkham, the owner of Minifigs & Bricks, says: "We'll be selling minifigs in The Basement over the weekend and be running a speed-build competition, for a variety of ages, with fantastic Lego prizes."
