Cinemagoers will have the chance to question the director and subject of a York documentary that was recently screened by the BBC.

South Bank Community Cinema is showing Folie a Deux - Madness Made of Two, about Helen Heraty, of Gray's Court Hotel.

It was shot over five years at the hotel by York director Kim Hopkins.

Both Kim and Helen will take part in a question and answer session with the audience after the film is shown at Clements Hall, in Nunthorpe Road, South Bank on Friday evening.

The film was shown on BBC4 recently as part of the Storyville series.

Linda Speidel, chair of trustees at Clements Hall, who has seen the film, said: "It is quite a frank portrayal. It will be interesting to see. It is local, by a local director about someone who lives locally and Gray's Court is local too. It is very much a York film."

She added that it could appeal to visitors as well as residents.

The film portrays the life of Helen's family and describes the ups and downs of its daily life and sets out to give an insight into England's history and the country's current obsessions.

Tomorrow's event is the result of another screening about two years ago, which Kim visited. During it, the cinema ran a trailer for the Folie a Deux film. At the time, the film had been shot and he was looking for distributors. That screening led to tomorrow's event being organised.

The film has previously been shown at City Screen cinema.
