CITY Screen, York, is decking the foyer with boughs of ivy to mark the release of Rob Marshall’s fairytale movie Into The Woods (PG).

Based on Stephen Sondheim’s stage musical, Marshall’s film brings together the heroes of many fairy stories such as Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Jack of Beanstalk fame (Daniel Huttlestone), and Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), with Johnny Depp as the Wolf.

The tale revolved around a baker and his barren wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt). Cursed by a witch (Meryl Streep) to remain childless, the couple must venture into the forest and locate magical objects that will break her spell, encountering various fantastical characters along the way.

City Screen’s marketing manager, Dave Taylor, says: “The foyer has been transformed into a wooded glen with the help of designer Mahlah Hall and some of the characters are being brought to life by models from Dr Sketchy’s Anti-Art School, so mind you don’t step on a dormouse as you enter the cinema.”

Into The Woods (PG) opened last Friday with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust joining in the fun in the foyer. Dr Sketchy’s will return to The Basement at City Screen on February 5 at 7.30pm with a mix of eccentric characters to sketch.
