BELLE & Sebastian musician Stuart Murdoch's debut film, God Help The Girl, will be shown at City Screen, York, tomorrow in a special preview screening at 6pm.

This will be followed immediately followed by a live set from Murdoch's Scottish band, broadcast via satellite from Edinburgh's Corn Exchange, featuring Murdoch's wistful, revelatory songs from the film as well as Belle & Sebastian's own material.

In God Help The Girl, Eve (Emily Browning, from Sucker Punch) is a sad-eyed, elfin young woman who absconds from a Glasgow rehab centre, where she is being treated for anorexia. She falls for sensitive rock musician James (Olly Alexander) and inspires him and his friend Cass (Hannah Murray, from Game Of Thrones) to find their groove and in turn themselves.

Written and directed by Murdoch, the film is infused with the charm that has marked his songwriting in its story of the brief moment after you have realised what you want to do with your life.
