Saltbox Gallery winter exhibition, Castlegate, Helmsley
1:28pm Friday 19th October 2012 in Exhibitions
Ceramic piece by Fiona Mazza
A HELMSLEY gallery is bringing together painting, printing, ceramics, sculpture and jewellery in a winter exhibition showcasing some of Britain’s leading artistic talent.
Saltbox Gallery owner Louise Dwyer says she has scoured the country to produce an exhibition packed with “a dazzling array of colours, textures and creative techniques”.
“With Christmas coming up, it’s probably one of the best times to visit the gallery. We sell beautiful, high-quality art that is individual and hand-made, yet can cost little more than you would pay on the high street for something mass-produced on a continent far away and owned by hundreds of people,” says Louise, a bespoke jewellery designer with a workshop at the gallery.
The exhibition starts tomorrow at the gallery in Castlegate and continues throughout autumn and winter, with new artists joining nearer Christmas.
Artists taking part include Lesley Seeger, a York-based artist whose paintings are vibrant interpretations of nature and its shapes; Gerard Hobson, a York-based former zoologist and printmaker specialising in the linocut technique and inspired by Yorkshire wildlife and Fiona Mazza, a North Yorkshire ceramic artist influenced by nature in the landscape, whose pieces are finished using the distinctive Raku technique.
