THE talents of graduating Faculty of Arts’ students will be on display between Monday and June 2 at York St John University and venues across the city as part of the university’s Create 12 festival.

Held annually, Create brings students’ work to the wider public in the form of fine art and product design exhibitions, music, theatre and dance performances and film and TV screenings.

Martin Downie, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, says: “Create 12 is one of the true highlights of our year, demonstrating the university’s support and commitment to developing the next wave of artists and commentators.

“The showcase is also an important part of York’s cultural calendar, cementing its reputation as a city of festivals. We warmly invite people to come along and experience the diverse range of work on offer.”

Alongside the array of performances and exhibitions held throughout the festival, there will be a series of short film screenings at York St John University on Friday, June 1, presented by final-year film and TV production students and recent graduates from the programme. These include award-winning films made by up-and-coming student film-makers who have scooped Royal Television Society awards and international film award commendations.

Product design student Holly Orton will be exhibiting her work at the Design showcase in the Guildhall from May 29 to June 1. Holly is celebrating securing a position as a visual designer for H&A Marketing when she leaves university.

H&A produce licensed and own-brand washing and bathing products, sold in major retailers across the country, and Holly’s role will involve package design and the creation of visuals and mock-ups of the products.
