Kentmere House Gallery takes part in York Residents Festival

KENTMERE House Gallery is taking part in the York Residents Festival for the first time this weekend. Ann Petherick’s gallery, in Scarcroft Hill, will be open from 11am to 5pm each day and will have a mixed exhibition that combines artists from the region with some from further afield.

Among the exhibitors will be Freya Horsley, Rosie Dean, and Gary Henderson, all from York.

“I’ve known and admired Freya’s atmospheric landscapes for some time, but then I saw some delightful small townscapes that she had painted of Venice and suggested that Freya might apply her technique to York,” says Ann.

“This proved extremely successful for Freya, who recently showed some work at an exhibition at the King’s Manor, organised by Kentmere House Gallery.”

Rosie Dean paints large and dramatic seascapes in her tiny terraced house in South Bank, while Gary Henderson paints the wildlife of the Derwent Ings, south of York, in delicate and sensitive watercolours. West Yorkshireman David Greenwood’s pastels of the Knavesmire area are on show too.

“David has carried out several commissions of houses and gardens, but has become so interested in the area that he has produced a number of additional paintings of the streets and distinctive red brick houses,” says Ann.

The Residents Festival gives free entry to York attractions that normally make a charge.

Although admission to Ann’s gallery is free all year round, she believes “many residents may not be aware of Kentmere House as it’s a little way out of the city centre”, and she hopes the event will encourage people to spread their wings.

“I’ll be running two special offers for residents during that weekend,” she says.

“There’ll be a free home trial, whereby any painting purchased can be returned for a full refund within 21 days, and each buyer will be given a voucher for five per cent off another purchase before the end of March.”
