SIX talented children from across York have been chosen to have their paintings or drawings of city views shown at a major exhibition.
York Civic Trust launched an art competition for pupils as part of the Views Of York exhibition at Fairfax House.
About 11 primary schools took part in the competition and there were more than 300 entries from young artists who were encouraged to get creative and produce a specific view that is meaningful to them, using any media they like.
A team of judges, which included local artists Jack Attree, Patrick Smith, Laura Turner, and Robert Teed, owner of The School House Gallery in Peasholme Green, whittled down the entries and chose Christian Cain, Rosie Carter, Kevin Chirayil, Amy Foster, Molly Hazelwood and Daniel Hicks as the overall winners.
Peter Brown, director of Fairfax House, in Castlegate, said he was delighted with the number of entries, adding: “There were some fantastic contributions from some very talented young people in the city. The subjects really sparked their imagination.”
