BLUE Tree Gallery owner Gordon Giarchi has focused on artist in residence Giuliana Lazzerini since opening in York in March.

Now, however, Gordon is launching a series of exhibitions where he will invite other artists and makers to exhibit alongside Lazzerini, an award-winning Italian artist who lives in York.

The first mixed show, entitled The Winter Exhibition, will run until the end of January at the gallery in Bootham, which specialises in contemporary fine art and applied arts.

Lazzerini’s imaginative paintings and linocuts inspired by Yorkshire and Tuscany are joined on the Blue Tree walls by the vibrant colours of South Yorkshire artist Janet Buckle and the assured impasto landscape paintings of France and England by Midlands artist Colin Carruthers.

Ceramics by West Yorkshire maker Dianne Cross are on show too, along with Shirley Vauvelle’s mixed-media work in earthenware inspired by the East Yorkshire coast, while Bugthorp sculptor Andrian Melka is exhibiting contemporary works in bronze and white marble depicting the female form.

The exhibition also features hand-made jewellery by York designer Ivan Giarchi, who specialises in semi-precious stones.

• Opening hours are 10am to 5.30pm, Tuesday to Saturday, and 12.30pm to 5pm on Sundays.
