Writer and mixed-media artist Pauline Carney’s first large-scale project as a curator brings together an 11-strong collective of diverse, professional York artists.

“Drawn from varying practices, all of them have been inspired by the tradition of storytelling and the ways in which cultures adapt tales that begin as excerpts from everyday life into often abstract, distorted fictions,” says Pauline.

“With visual representation varying from illustration to sculpture, this group of artists displays a most surreal take on reality.”

In The Kingdom Of Fiction will be exhibited at two locations: the Bar Lane Studios Basement, off Micklegate, today from 7pm to 10pm and tomorrow from 11am to 7pm, followed by Space 109 community arts centre, in Walmgate, next Friday and Saturday at the same times.

Six Lips Theatre, who use Bar Lane Studios as their base, are helping to facilitate this “live exhibition”, and their fellow participants will be Becki Harper; Boklet Beaton; Chris Peacock; Jam Grantham; Jenn Nicholson; Michelle Maddison; Sophia ‘DeeDee’ Rose; Steph Shaw; Stevie Croft; and Pauline Carney herself.

Admission is free; refreshments are available; more information can be found at in-the-kingdom-of-fiction.blogspot.com
