Michael and Eileen Scott are exhibiting at the Norman Rea Gallery, Langwith College, University of York, until March 4.

The Scotts are the benefactors of this gallery, which now is run by a student committee. “We’re delighted to welcome them back for a vibrant and interesting exhibition,” says show curator Emilia Will.

Michael Scott paints in acrylic and oils, his style being a blend of figurative and abstract that leads to his work being likened to that of the Fauvist movement.

“Most of his paintings in this exhibition are drawn from work completed in the last year; they have a garden-like or sylvan quality in which pleasure coexists with stress,” says Emilia.

Eileen has painted mainly still life and flower paintings. “They exemplify what has always been her primary goal: creating a picture of the vital essence of her subjects, and achieving a ‘glowing’ quality in the process,” says Emilia.
