AN AMBIDEXTROUS artist who paints exquisitely detailed images of the great Masters with his right hand and with the 2D simplicity of a child with his left, will sign his artworks at a York gallery next month.
John D Wilson visits Castle Galleries in the Coppergate Centre, York, on Saturday, February 13, from 1pm to 4pm, to explain how he developed his two-handed style.
In a surprise for fans of his work, Mr Wilson will present the first 15 customers purchasing a piece of his art with a free limited edition print.
A keen, self-taught artist who refined his natural skills at local evening and weekend art classes, Mr Wilson said his eureka moment came when his then four-year-old daughter brought home a picture she had drawn at playgroup.
He said: “It was only a small picture of a stickman figure, but when I looked at it on the mantelpiece sitting under a Lowry print I had hanging above it, it suddenly occurred to me that when Lowry was four years old he would have painted figures in the same way as my daughter.”
