At York Art Gallery, in Exhibition Square, you should look out for Marking Time in the main hall, from October 6.

This exhibition features paintings from York's own collections by artists including JMW Turner, Francis Danby and William Etty, showing scenes at different times of the day, from sunrise to sunset and night.

Tracey Emin at York Art Gallery is one show I won't be in a rush to see, but British Council seems to like her, having selected her for the British podium at the 52nd Venice Biennale. This exhibition will coincide with that event.

Simply titled "Tracey Emin", it will feature her works on paper, photography and textiles. Emin is one of Britain's most well-known artists thanks to her autobiographical works, and came to prominence when she was short-listed for the Turner Prize in 1999 with My Bed.

Many of the works on display in the small gallery from October 6 offer a glimpse into Emin's personal world and have been loaned by a private collector from Yorkshire.

For those wishing to combine art with local history, the exhibition Mad Man And The Minster is worth a visit. This comprises pictures selected from York Art Gallery's Works on Paper Collection and runs until October 21. It tells the story of the religious fanatic Jonathan Martin, who set fire to York Minster in 1829, destroying the medieval wooden roof, organ and choir stalls.

Here at Artfulness, in Goodramgate, A Touch Of Late Summer combines new paintings by Emma Bateman and Sue Nichol. Sue has provided bold, fresh, powerful and atmospheric land and seascapes while Emma has gone experimental with her abstract collages and landscapes made of collected objects mixed with paint, such as beads, shells, nails, ball bearings, peacock feathers and even real butterflies.

They are glistening, intriguing and certainly memorable. This exhibition runs until October 4; for more information visit www.artfulness.co.uk

The exhibition will be held in the Minster from October 1 to 29. The club supports traditional and digital technologies, and welcomes new members. www.communigate.co.uk/york/yorkcameraclub
