BLUE Tree Gallery, in Bootham, York, opens its Fields Of Vision exhibition on Saturday at 10am.

On show and for sale until March 17 will be a mixed group exhibition of original paintings and ceramics by Jane Burnley, Ian George, Paolo Lazzerini and Janette Summerfield.

Jane Burnley's work is influenced by her rural surroundings, its patterns, shapes, colours and fall of light. "Colour is my main inspiration, whether it be subtle or otherwise," she says. "I usually use acrylics and do not plan a painting, but work intuitively, allowing the image to emerge and develop.

"I build up layers of paint, scratching through to colours underneath, and this sgraffito technique is now an important part of my painting process."

Although Burnley paints mainly paint small abstract landscapes, she also produce more spiritual work in which she seeks to convey a sense of peace and calm.

Ian George lives in the Yorkshire Wolds, where he walks and paints every day, capturing the constantly changing light and atmospheric conditions. "On a recent trip to Wuyishan in China, I observed similar conditions in a completely different environment, where the huge cliffs and stacks created a dramatic backdrop in contrast to the rolling serenity of the Wolds," he says.

Paolo Lazzerini was born in the beautiful Tuscan town of Pietrasanta and graduated in painting from the Accademia delle Belli Arte di Carrara. From these early days, he distinguished himself in numerous competitions and exhibitions, and in the 1970s and 1980s he exhibited in Forte Dei Marmi, Turin and Rome and his paintings were shown at Gallery 2000 in Tokyo too.

In the 1990s he showed work in German galleries and today his paintings continue to be on display in international galleries as he tries out new techniques and expands into the graphics sector.

His artwork is marked out by a capacity to communicate emotions, painting the landscape and the atmosphere of his land in a surreal manner, playing with light, form and colour.

She now focuses on her art, drawing inspiration from her love of the landscape to produce innovative, vibrant paintings, working primarily in pastels and oils, but open to exploring other media too.

Her work is in private collections in Britain, South Africa and the United States and she was elected a member of the Society of Women Artists in 2009 and a member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists in 2010.

Blue Tree Gallery is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5.30pm.
