YORK Art Gallery is to present the first solo exhibition of Albert Joseph Moore's works since the York-born artist’s death in 1893.

From April 7 to October 1, more than 20 paintings and watercolours will be on display, highlighting the classical women for which Moore is most famous and demonstrating the modernity of his approach.

Organised by York Museums Trust and Museum De Buitenplaats, in Eelde, Netherlands, the exhibition features examples of Moore’s youthful Pre-Raphaelite works, as well as the hauntingly beautiful classical figures of his mature style. The exhibition is running at the Museum De Buitenplaats until March 19 before coming to York.

Later in the year, the Centre of Ceramic Art (CoCA) at York Art Gallery will show highlights of the Attenborough Collection of ceramics by Pablo Picasso from July 28 to November 5.

Paul Nash and the Uncanny Landscape: An exhibition curated by John Stezaker will be a three-part show wherein contemporary artist John Stezaker brings together works by Nash and his circle of contemporaries, seen alongside a display of prints, drawings and photographs by Nash, and an exhibition of Stezaker’s own work, from October 20 to February 18 2018 York Art Gallery is open Monday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm, with last admission at 4.30pm.
