THE Art Market will run at York Racecourse, on Knavesmire, from September 30 to October 2 in Yorkshire’s largest public art and contemporary craft show.

Building on the success of last year's event, the 2016 market has grown again, giving visitors the chance to view art in the Knavesmire Suite by more than 100 artists and designer-makers, whose work spans paintings, prints, sculptures, ceramics, glass and other contemporary crafts.

Visitors also can meet the artists, enjoy talks, demonstrations, installations, join in with interactive areas and workshops and relax with live music and a café area, as well as browse, buy or commission art.

The Art Market team has been running arts events in the north of England for nine years, and among that team are sculptor Brendan Hesmondhalgh, creator of some of the largest ceramic sculptures in Britain, and fellow artists Victoria Robinson and Emily Stubbs, who combine business acumen with creativity to attract some of the best artists in the country.

Victoria says: “The Art Market originated in Holmfirth nine years ago. Two years ago, we decided to bring the concept to York, thanks to an overwhelming response from artists and visitors. The Art Market has evolved in York to include a broad range of disciplines and gives us an opportunity to showcase emerging artists in York through our RAW project.

"We’re looking forward to the show immensely and welcoming new and existing visitors to York Racecourse for three days of the best of the best, appealing to all tastes and budgets.”

Among the emerging artists to prosper from The Art Market is Freya Stockford, whose work from Glasgow’s School of Art's graduation Show caught the eye of the Art Market team in 2015. She is now on a residency in New York and selling globally.

“I was lucky enough to have been awarded a free space at The Art Market York 2015 with the RAW Graduate Mentoring Programme, and with the support of their mentoring and advice, I’m excited to say that I sold my work for the first time in my home county of Yorkshire," says Freya. "I was very excited to win Best Newcomer, an award chosen by Greg McGee, from the According To McGee gallery, which gave me a great confidence boost.”
