BIRMINGHAM artist Paul Horton is exhibiting his work with Washington Green Fine Art for the final time, first on view in a week-long show, So Far, So Good – The Farewell Tour, at Castle Fine Art, Castlegate, York.

Horton launched his exhibition at the Coppergate Centre gallery last Saturday afternoon before visiting 15 other galleries this autumn on a tour that marks his 40 years as an artist.

So Far, So Good complements a selection of his most popular works with five new signed limited editions and two boutique pieces, created specially for the tour as part of Horton's last collaboration with fine art publishers Washington Green after 18 years.

Born and bred in Harborne, Birmingham, Horton studied drawing and painting at Bournville School of Art before embarking on a career where the city’s industrial legacy has inspired many of the scenes and characters in his work and informed his own working-class ethic.

He has 200 limited-edition pieces and almost 40 sculptures in his portfolio and during his years with Washington Green he has undertaken ten tours, from Edinburgh to Exeter, Cardiff to Cambridge.

Paul Horton's farewell tour arrives in York

“The life of an artist is a very special one and creativity is everything; I’ve been exhibiting my art for 40 years and the passion of the young aspiring artist still burns bright," says Horton, who has published a biography, In My Life, and worked with charities on bespoke limited editions.

“I’m extremely proud of all the tours and events that have taken place over the years. I’m constantly amazed and thrilled by the wonderful reaction from my collectors who have made a connection to my work; their rich interpretation has been both rewarding and humbling.”

Gordon Farmer, Castle Fine Art's gallery manager in York, says: "Paul is passionate about what he creates and this is obvious to so many who continue to be captivated by his work. His highly communicative and thought-provoking images show an awareness, insight and understanding of life, making an immediate and uplifting impression on the viewer.

“We've been honoured to work with Paul over the past 18 years. He's one of the best-selling artists in Castle Fine Art’s history and will, no doubt, continue to enjoy success as one of the UK’s most beloved contemporary artists well into the future.”

So Far, So Good – The Farewell Tour runs at Castle Fine Art, York, until Sunday.
