Harrogate artist Anita Bowerman cut out for her second show at The Cafe 68 in York

Owners Duncan and Emma Brown invited Anita back to their Gillygate café after the success of her exhibition two years ago of paper cuts and paintings of landmarks in the Yorkshire countryside.

"We're so pleased that Anita is exhibiting with us again," says Duncan. "She's so wonderfully talented. I particularly love her stainless steel and copper Angel Of The North. I so want one and have been hinting to my wife to get me one for Christmas."

Anita welcomes the opportunity to return to The Cafe 68. "It's a great pleasure to have my work on this art cafe's walls. There's a great ambience here and the light, airy space perfectly compliments my work," says the Harrogate artist, who works from her gallery, The Dove Tree Art Studio, in Back Granville Road.

"Last time I was here, I sold, among other pieces, my original one metre-long paper-cut map of York, which I had carefully created from one piece of paper. It took 100 hours to cut out and complete."

A laser-cut replica of this map now hangs above the cafe's fireplace. The signed laser cut is limited to 25 in the edition, priced at £450, while limited-edition giclee prints of 495 in the edition are available from £45. Maps of Harrogate and Ilkley are on sale too.

Last year, Anita completed her fourth map, A Cycle Tour of Yorkshire Grand Depart, which took six months to complete and more than 200 hours to hand cut from one piece of paper. It shows the landmarks, attractions, stately homes and towns, along with people enjoying themselves and cyclists in different coloured jackets.

An original size giclee limited-edition print is on display in the café, while an Angel Of The North, complete with tiny children, adults and copper leaf wings, is to be found near the bar. Originally a commission for a sheet metal company, it is now reproduced as limited-edition copies in steel at £995, plus a small stainless steel version for £350 and a limited-edition print for £50.

In her capacity as the official artist for the Tour de Yorkshire, Anita produced the Stainless Steel Wheel to celebrate the tour and the work is limited to 500 copies at £295.

As a juxtaposition to this intricate work, Anita loves painting outdoors, often using French paints to create bold, vibrant, brightly coloured pictures, as well as pebbles and other natural objects she finds where she paints to make marks. At The Cafe 68, she is showing her new painting of Scarborough, a detailed Minster pen and gouache painting and delicate bird portraits too.

The exhibition will run until February 1 next year.
