STUDENTS from Ryedale School are exhibiting their GCSE coursework at Nunnington Hall, Nunnington, near York, until May 10.

The work covers myriad styles and demonstrates the use of diverse media, such as acrylic paint, pastels, mixed media, watercolours and pencil drawings in pieces based on themes that include Identity and Close Up.

Pupils were required to research their topic and select artists to inspire the final pieces. Sketchbooks and artist statements will enable exhibition visitors to see the development of each piece from concept to completion.

James Etherington, Nunnington Hall’s visitor experience manager, says: “At the National Trust, we always find it a pleasure to see young artistic talent emerging; to see the development of their style and the pushing of creative boundaries. The talent on display in this exhibition is breathtaking and I’m sure the works will inspire debate and delight in equal measure.”

Among the GCSE art students taking part in the show is Airlie Mason, who says: “Art at Ryedale School is a thought-provoking and creative subject. There are no boundaries and it truly broadens your perception of what art actually is.”

James adds: “We’re delighted to be hosting work from Ryedale School. Developing partnerships with local schools and colleges is high on our agenda and we look forward to working with them again. The standard of work produced for the GCSE course is consistently high and the exhibition fits into our exhibition programme, alongside the more established artists and photographers.”

• Nunnington Hall is open Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 5pm.
