HUTTONS Ambo mosaic artist Sue Kershaw has drawn inspiration from a visit to Ravenna in Italy, all of 25 years ago, for her Fragments Of Time exhibition at Otley Courthouse in West Yorkshire.

Sue, 45, will be displaying ancient and contemporary-inspired mosaics from Sunday, March 29, after travelling the globe from her studio near Malton to collect materials for her work, including seashells from Sicily and clay pots from the River Ganges in India.

She has visited places closer to home too, such as Spurn Point, to gather pebbles: “The exhibition brings together a series of materials I’ve collected from my travels across the world with a view to building a collection for my work,” she says.

Should you be wondering why Ravenna so inspired her all those years ago, it is home to the largest collection of mosaics in the world, which ushered her towards creating some of her own.

• Admission to Sue’s Otley exhibition will be free from March 29 up until May 3.
