YORK Artists, York Places is the theme of Kentmere House Gallery’s participation in the York Residents’ Festival 2015 this weekend.

“We’ve taken part in the festival for the past three years and have found it a great success,” says Ann Petherick, owner of the gallery in her spacious Victorian house in Scarcroft Hill, overlooking York racecourse.

“Because it’s a little off the beaten track, there are many York residents who have not yet discovered it, so the festival is the ideal time to sample the atmosphere of York’s only gallery-at-home, and to introduce it to friends.

“We’ve been open for more than 20 years but still find some residents – even those living nearby – say that they have never visited before or even known about it. This weekend, they can change that by coming here on Saturday or Sunday between 11am and 6pm.”

On show will be York Artists, York Places, an exhibition by York artists Freya Horsley, Rosie Dean and Gary Henderson, and paintings of York by David Greenwood and Susan Brown, together with etchings by the late John Brunsden, who died last year.

“Freya Horsley’s atmospheric York townscapes have attracted many admirers and are complemented by Gary Henderson’s delicate and sensitive watercolours of the birds of the Derwent Ings south of York, portrayed in a style which is imaginative yet utterly authentic,” says Ann.

“West Yorkshire artist David Greenwood’s pastels of the distinctive red brick houses of the area around the gallery are executed in his trademark vigorous style and are a welcome portrayal of a distinctive era of York’s architecture.”

Entry is free, as always, but two special offers for residents are in operation during the weekend: a free home trial, whereby any painting bought can be returned for a full refund within 21 days, and a voucher for five per cent off another purchase before the end of March 2015 for each buyer.
