A SERIES of Tour de France paintings by a York artist proved so popular that the gallery they were being shown in had to change the name of the exhibition once most of the works were sold.
‘Le Tour Yorkshire: Contemporary Paintings of the Northern Route’ ran at York's 'According to McGee' gallery from July 6 to coincide with Le Tour Yorkshire, when the county hosted the Grand Depart of the Tour de France.
However, the pictures by celebrated York artist Richard Barnes were so popular that they soon sold out.
The gallery has restocked with a series of new paintings from Barnes and renamed the display ‘Contemporary Paintings of Yorkshire’. As the name suggests, the pictures are all of the county of Yorkshire, including scenes of the Yorkshire Dales, Whitby and the Hole of Horcum.
The show runs at the gallery, which is opposite Clifford’s Tower, until September 1. All the pictures are available to buy.
