THE Aesthetica Art Prize People's Choice Award is open for your votes at York St Mary's.

"We want the good people of York and Yorkshire to have their say and to go to York Art Gallery's contemporary art space in Castlegate to cast their vote for their favourite work among the eight shortlisted finalists," says Cherie Federico, editor of Aesthetica Magazine, the international art and culture publication run from the De Grey Rooms in York.

" Additionally, voters are entered into the free prize draw with a chance of winning an exclusive evening in York, including a meal for two at Le Cochon Aveugle, in Walmgate, cinema tickets for Reel, in Blossom Street, and champagne cocktails at the 1331 bar in Grape Lane."

Organised by Aesthetica Magazine, in partnership with York Museums Trust, the Aesthetica Art Prize is its second year and features new work in photographic and digital art, painting and drawing, three dimensional design and sculpture and video, installaton and performance.

"Audiences are invited to interact with the show; one exhibit is a musical sculpture that can be played; others project into the space and welcome viewers to walk through and around them," says Cherie.

On show are German artist Sybille Neumeyer's prize-winning installation, Song For The Last Queen; the student prize-winning musical sculpture, Frustum Super Planum Cum Filia Lyrae, by Londoner Harriet Lewars; Deb Covell's Black and White Paintings; and Amedeo Abello & Federico Morando's design and photography pieces Life/File.

The other finalists on display are Chilean artist Ines Molina Navea's digital portraits, 541 Dias; Ingrid Hu's idiosyncratic installation of musical bowls, Longplayer; Julia Weissenberg's video travelogue, There Is No Real Way Of Knowing; and Elke Finkenauer's "soft drawing cum sculpture", Draw A Line Somewhere.

The People’s Choice Award-winning artist and prize draw winner will be announced on July 1. Voting can take place only in York St Mary's and ends on June 22, the closing day of the exhibition. Opening hours are 10am to 5pm daily; admission is free.
