TWELVE artists from in and around Pocklington are showing their work at an Artists' Open Studios event this weekend to mark Craft and Design Month.

Jill Ford, ceramics, and Avril Cheetham, jewellery and enamel, will be exhibiting at Providence House, Ellerton; Chris Cullum, textile art, and Ann Shaw, printmaking and paintings, at Newfold House, Newton-upon-Derwent; Gerry Grant, ceramics, and Mo Burrows, jewellery, at Fangfoss Pottery, Fangfoss; and Shirley Davis Dew, paintings, and Andrea Davis, gift cards, at Rocking Horse Museum, Fangfoss.

Ceramicist Penny de Corte has two guests, glass maker Debbie March and portrait painter Jun Cui, exhibiting at her studio at 56 Garths End, Pocklington, while ceramicist Tony Wells will be at 3 Stable Court, Londesborough. Members of the public are invited to see the work in working studio environments, where they can meet the artists and learn how they produce their wares.

"We have a wealth of creative talent and artists in our area and are supported by customers who understand the intrinsic joy and value of having hand-crafted pieces in their homes," says ceramicist Jill Ford.

This is the fourth year that the group has celebrated Craft and Design Month through Pocklington Area Open Studios.

"Our collective reflects a wide range of applied arts; all our creative practitioners in this event will be present at the different venues, some will be demonstrating their skills, all will be happy to talk about their individual approach to their work," says jewellery maker Avril Cheetham.

The studios will be open between 10am and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday. Information leaflets listing venue details can be found at Pocklington Arts Centre, York Tourist Information Centre, Selby Tourist information Centre and Beverley Tourist Information Centre.
