FOR one night only, artists Allaway & Jones take over Artemis House, in Eboracum Way, York, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Monday, April 28.

"In our Minimal Awareness [present minimalism] show, we explore the relationship between mixed materials to produce a unified, sensory, aesthetic dialogue which engages with our participating audience," say Ritchard Allaway and Luc Jones.

"Working within the boundaries of minimal forms, we are identifying the relationship of concrete and light that creates a reflective discourse within a spatial experience. Occupying a space to compose meditative discussion, the work showcased embodies the viewer into an illusion of perception."

Perception is not only a question of vision, but involves the whole body, suggest the York St John University students. "Through experience, the viewer is to be immersed inside a space and is free to explore it," they say.

"Expanding the visual experience beyond the three-dimensional and into a realm of embodied consciousness, we engage with the space the work occupies. Through the use of unified materials, Allaway & Jones allow for a physical experience to happen that creates a reflective relationship between the object (sculpture) and subject (viewer). We establish a concept that sculpture and viewer are not separate entities but are mutually intertwined and interdependent."
