A CERAMIC crocodile, scenes from Alice In Wonderland and a cityscape in 3D form part of a new art exhibition by York College students at a Ryedale stately home.

Nunnington Hall, near Helmsley, is the setting for an exhibition called Discovery, which features York’s best up-and-coming artists. The show opens tomorrow and runs until Sunday, March 9.

More than 30 students from different courses at the college put forward work for display at the exhibition, which is unusual for Nunnington as it mainly showcases 3D work.

Mollie Dodd, general manager at the National Trust property, said: “We are delighted to be working with York College and it is wonderful to be able to showcase such new and exciting artists.

"The quality of work is really high and we’ve chosen some very varied styles so we’re excited to see visitors’ responses to the pieces. We’re looking to develop more projects with local organisations and this is a really great one to start the season with.”

Ed Poxon, deputy head of fine art, design and craft at the college, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our students’ work to a wider audience and for them to experience working with an outside organisation.

“We’ve really enjoyed working with the National Trust at Nunnington and hope this is the first of many projects.”

The exhibition is open from Tuesdays to Sundays, 11am to 5pm.
