YORK artist June Hardy brings seascapes and landscapes to life in her new exhibition at Dutch House, the ecological art space, wildlife garden and café in Crayke, near York.

On show and for sale until March 31 are paintings and prints, including new works of fishing boats curved against the textures of water and mudflats in which they are moored.

“June’s work is vibrant and full of life with scenic sea shores, countryside and atmospheric sunsets and moody harbour mornings,” says Dutch House co-owner Cecile Creemers.

June is a self-taught artist with a strong, creative passion for painting who applies gouache and acrylics as her main materials.

“I love to use the same theme and experiment with different materials and techniques,” she says. “I use my imagination, guided by close observation, and I find inspiration everywhere around me: the patterns of branches, the lines and blocks of colour in the landscape.”

Cecile notes that “June has a different way of looking at her surroundings, making her work pure and almost abstract”. “We’re excited to be able to show this exhibition,” she says.

June’s exhibition is the first of six planned for this year at Dutch House, Mill Green Farm, Crayke. June will be on site on the afternoon of Friday, March 15 to explain the principles of her work.

• Dutch House is open from Friday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm, and from April 1, Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm. For more information, visit dutchhouseyorkshire.com
