9:45am Friday 3rd February 2012 in Comedy
STRAIGHT off the back of finishing playing the lead role in Red Ladder and Chumbaw-amba’s music hall comedy Big Society! tomorrow, Phill Jupitus will stay on in Leeds for an extra night at the City Varieties Music Hall.
At 8pm on Sunday, the Never Mind The Buzzcocks team captain will present his one-man show, Stand Down, as a one-off gig for Leeds only, rather than as part of a tour.
Phill has performed stand-up at the City Varieties in the past. “I love the venue,” he says. “It’s one of the best spaces in the world, it just is. It’s a perfectly constructed theatre.”
Stand Down promises to be erudite, troubled and occasionally mean. “If you’ve only ever seen Phill Jupitus on TV, expect to spill your drink in fury and/or joy,” forewarns Faye Dawson, the City Varieties’ PR manager.
Advance booking for Sunday’s show is advisable. Box office: 0113 243 0808 or online at cityvarieties.co.uk
