Just A Quickie with… laddish Lee Nelson, star of Lee Nelson’s Well Good Show on BBC3, who plays York tonight.
Lee Nelson is the street slang-speaking comic creation of British comedian Simon Brodkin. If you are yet to meet Lee, he specialises in mocking responses that reveal his world view, his own ignorance and his stereotypical antisocial attitudes. CHARLES HUTCHINSON has a word with him.
Lee, how has your world moved on between the Lee Nelson Well Good Show and Lee Nelson Live?
“All still the same mate – me my best mate and fat legend Omelette are still hanging out together and making people giggle. The TV show was only 30 minutes but Lee Nelson Live is a whole night out
of well funny proper mental stuff. And you don’t to pay a TV licence so win-win.”
How has the world outside you changed?
“The economy and all that I suppose. No one’s got no money these days, innit? Apparently the economy’s so bad in Greece they might have to work during the afternoon.”
Where do you fit into that world?
“I’m doing all right for cash. In fact I just bought myself a 3D TV at the weekend – it’s incredible. Though I ain’t watching porn on it again, nearly took my eye out.”
What advice have you got for that world?
“Be sensible. Only spend your money on essentials like Lee Nelson Live tickets and Lee Nelson’s Well Good Show Series 1 on DVD.”
How do you feel about attracting two million viewers to your BBC3 show? That really is well good
“It’s a proper buzz. I always knew I was a legend but this is ridiculous. My success with the birds is now off the scale. We was number one on iPlayer – although admittedly we had a team of
Filipino kids clicking away on some stolen laptops.”
What’s happening next for you after your latest TV series and the autumn tour?
“Coz the tour’s mentally popular we’ve extended into next year. And after that I want go back home to the family and spend some quality time with my two dogs, Benson & Hedges.”
Oh, and finally, where did you get that hat, Lee?
“From a well good shop in London. Though let’s just say I ain’t got a receipt if you know what I mean!”
