JAMIE Morton, James Cooper and Alice Levine star in My Dad Wrote A Porno, bringing their hit podcast to the stage.

After more than 100 million downloads across the globe since 2015, it has has since been adapted into a book and a live tour.

For those unfamiliar with the original podcast, the format has Morton reading extracts from Belinda Blinked, a genuine series of erotica books written by Morton’s father under the pseudonym Rocky Flintstone, while Cooper and Levine give candid reactions as they are exposed to the terrible writing and laughable sexual imagery.

Unfortunately, this spontaneity is difficult to replicate in a live show which has to be repeatable by necessity, and the illusion that this is still their ‘first time’ this time around is quickly dispelled.

Morton acquits himself admirably with his mortified narration of his father’s work, but most of the commentary around it feels overwrought. Gags and punchlines are repeated to diminishing returns, and much of the banter comes across as unnecessary padding.

The cast rely heavily on shock laughs generated by the perplexing content of Belinda’s sexual exploits, but there simply isn’t enough on display to justify the two-hour runtime.

My Dad Wrote A Porno is clearly intended for established fans already sold on the podcast. It’s mildly amusing to watch Morton, Cooper and Levine squirm at the awful smut, but it’s stilted, unnatural and utterly lacking in focus.
