BRENDON Burns, the rock'n'roll comedian who once walked out on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here, headlines the Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club at York Barbican on Friday. Joining him on the 8pm bill will be Steve Bugeja, Nigel NG, Jack Gleadow and master of ceremonies Chris Washington.

Burns' British television career began as a performer on Channel 4's late-night spontaneous comedy show The 11 O'Clock Show before he appeared as a presenter on the ITV's I'm a Celebrity!...but departed after only three days.

A trilogy of Burnsy Versus Brendon shows at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2004 to 2006 examined his own life, culminating in his mental breakdown and drinks and drugs rehabilitation at the Priory.

In 2010, Burns released his first semi-autobiographical novel, Fear Of Hat Loss In Las Vegas, through Transworld. In 2014, he began his own podcast, The Brendon Burns Show, with its mix of interviews and stand-up as he travels around the world.

Steve Bugeja was crowned the BBC Radio New Comedy Award winner in 2013, having won the BBC’s Jesting About 2 sketch competition in 2012. Since then, he has written jokes for BBC Radio 4’s The Show What You Wrote and Newsjack, BBC2’s Mock The Week and Russell Howard’s Good News, as well as for Channel 4’s 8 Out Of 10 Cats.

Nigel NG grew up in Malaysia, lived in the United States for five years and moved to Britain in 2015. He considers himself a self-aware outsider, estranged but trying to fit in, with jokes that go beyond “I'm foreign and I misunderstand things”.

Having started his comedy career in Chicago, he says he is relieved that (most) people in the UK get his jokes too, as evidenced by his victory in the 2016 Amused Moose Laugh Off.

Hull comedian Jack Gleadow was named International Young Magician in 2013 but then gave up magic to concentrate on stand-up. Named Hull Comedian of the Year and Hilarity Bites New Comedian of the Year, he has since won the Amused Moose National New Comic Award in Edinburgh and the New Comedian Of the Year Final at the Great Yorkshire Fringe here in York.

Host Chris Washington, who began performing stand-up comedy in July 2012, combines cheeky Northern charm with humorous tales, as heard in his 2017 Edinburgh Fringe show Dream Big: Within Reason.

Tickets for Friday's 8pm show cost £17 on 0844 854 2757 or at yorkbarbican.co.uk or £20 on the door from 7.30pm. The next Laugh Out Loud show will be on December 20.
