REGINALD D. Hunter will defy a broken leg to perform Thursday's gig at the Grand Opera House in York, where he will take to the stage in a wheelchair.

"We've not been been informed of the details of how he broke his leg but I’m sure he'll be talking about that tomorrow," says Opera House marketing and communications officer Celestine Dubruel.

Details are sketchy. Indeed Hunter's website makes no mention of the leg break, instead leading off on "Irish Tour Announced!" and "2016 and 2017 Appearances".

A phone call to his publicists, Paul Sullivan PR, added only a little flesh to the bones of this breaking news. "As far as we understand, Reginald didn't break the leg during a performance," says spokesman Robin Richardson. "It was either at home or in a hotel, but we're not quite sure, though we assume at this stage he'll be performing in a wheelchair.

"We don't know when it happened; we don't know which leg, or which part of which leg; his management haven't come up with any further details yet, but any publicity is good publicity, isn't it?!"

Hunter's 8pm show may be called Some People V. Reginald D. Hunter but the American comic's arrow will be fired at one person in particular: Donald Trump. "Trump is the elephant in the room, especially if you’re American. You’ve got to say something about him,” he reasons.

What might Hunter say about his hunted target, the American President? “I’ll say I love him,” he jokes. “Not since Martin Luther King have I loved someone so much.”
