THE Burning Duck Comedy Club presents a Sunday double bill of "two of the best up and coming comedians in the country", Mat Ewins and Pat Cahill, at The Basement, City Screen, York. Both will be performing their 2016 Edinburgh Fringe shows this weekend.

Mat Ewins: Will Make You A Star finds the mischievous, whimsical comic turning teacher to take the audience through an hour-long acting seminar that will be heavy on homemade video projections, crowd participation and parody.

"After performing 19,000 times across four separate counties, gigging in venues like chip shops and U-boats, and once performing in a packet of Doritos, Mat "York" Ewins returns to the city that gave him his middle name. York," says Burning Duck promoter Al Greaves. "Ewins will talk of the highs and lows of being a major Hollywood star and he will make you one too."

Pat Cahill: ever the optimist

Pat Cahill will be opening his D.O.T.T, a surrealist box set of "optimistic b****cks", wherein "everybody knows, it's just the way it goes, all sorts can happen, and that's the way it goes".

Will Cahill go behind the candelabra for you? Let you peak inside his velvet curtains? One thing's for sure, from start to finish he will mean well, and no matter what happens, you can bet your life he will enjoy it.

“We're very excited to be bringing Mat and Pat to York this weekend,” says Al. “York now has several great comedy clubs, such as Sitting Room, Laugh Out Live Comedy and Love Comedy Live in Haxby, booking mixed bills with top circuit comedians.

"So it’s great that Burning Duck can complement York’s comedy scene by presenting extended sets from performers who aren't always as easy to define or pigeonhole as just 'comedy; booking acts who often incorporate elements of theatre, music, dance, spoken word and poetry to explore highbrow and serious subjects at more length while generating thought-provoking but, most importantly, hilarious responses."

James Acaster: three nights, three different shows in York next March

Al reports that tickets are selling very fast for a Burning Duck run of three shows booked into The Basement for as far ahead as March 24, 25 and 26. On those dates, James Acaster will present The Trelogy, one night each of his past three Edinburgh Fringe shows, Recognise, Represent and Reset.

Looking forward to the Ewins and Cahill double bill and Acaster's triple, Al says: "“Mat Ewins and Pat Cahill’s Edinburgh Fringe shows are always very popular and highly anticipated, so it’s fantastic that we have this opportunity to present shows from such promising acts, as well as booking award-winning and nominated shows from an established performer like James Acaster.”

Tickets for Sunday's 8pm gig cost £10 on 0871 902 5726, at thebasementyork.co.uk or £14 on the door from 7.45pm; tickets for Acaster's The Trelogy cost £16 for each show or £40 for all three.
