‘TIS the month of December soon, and as children all across the land prepare to hang up their stockings for Father Christmas, the Hyena Lounge Comedy Club brings out its Christmas Baubles for a night packed with ho-ho-ho-hilarity at Harrogate Theatre on Saturday.

“There’s no finer way of putting a smile on your face on a cold winter’s evening than to sit in a beautiful Edwardian theatre and laugh yourself silly all night long,” says Hyena Lounge Comedy Club promoter Toby Clouston Jones, who is bringing Alun Cochrane, Carl Hutchinson, Daliso Chaponda and David Morgan to the spa town.

“So forget about all the presents that still need buying, the impending family rows and working out exactly how long it takes to cook a turkey and head out for a night of side-splitting entertainment.”

Alun Cochrane, as seen on Have I Got News For You, makes a welcome return to the club. “A true master of observational comedy, he’s always hugely popular with the Hyena Lounge audiences with his dour view on the minutia of life, mixed with his humorously accurate anecdotes and observations,” says Toby. “He’s one of the true masters of stand-up comedy in this country.”

Carl Hutchinson is often seen on tour with his North Eastern comedy pal, Chris Ramsey. He has appeared on Russell Howard’s Good News, performing his stand-up routines, and is building up a loyal following for his solo shows.

“Carl sold out his entire run at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe – rare these days for a young comic – with his exasperation at the mundane aspects of everyday life that are as humorous as they are recognisable and he’s sure to be a huge name of the future.”

Daliso Chaponda began his comedy career in Canada with his acclaimed one-man show Feed This Black Man, and his subsequent appearances included the Just For Laughs Festival and the Don’t Let Them Deport Me Comedy Show as a plea to officials to have his Canadian visa extended.

“The show was sold out and frenzied letters were written to bureaucrats. However, he was forced to leave after one final show, They’re Deporting Him Anyway,” recalls Toby.

“He moved to the UK, and with his raw Eddie Murphy-like confidence, cheek and super-polished style, this thoughtful comic now delights audiences all over the country with his racial and socially insightful comedy.”

David Morgan is best known for his appearances as a team captain on ITV2’s Safeword and as last year’s co-presenter of I’m a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! NOW’.

“David has performed his award-winning stand-up shows at comedy festivals all across the world, as well as in lengthy runs at London’s Soho Theatre, but his first love is compering comedy clubs, and we welcome him back to the Hyena Lounge with open arms,” says Toby.
