YORK comedy promoter Daniel Triscott is adding a second string to his bow by running shows at the Fulford Arms, in Fulford Road, to complement his regular gigs at the Duke of York in Kings Square.

"I was looking to start a new night in York for a few reasons but mainly it was to bring even more great comedy to the people of York," says Daniel, who will host his next Fulford Arms Comedy Night bill on December 6.

"New act/new material nights with unknown, locally sourced acts and free entry tend to get a bad rep as being sub-par, but from my experience that needn't be the case at all. A well-run gig with the right acts on can be hilarious, whether it's with a professional line-up right through to keen hobbyists."

Ex-pat Cornishman Daniel held his first Fulford Arms night in October. "It's a superb venue for putting on live events," he says. "We've only had two shows on so far but they've been really, really enjoyable with superb acts and an appreciative audience.

Headliner Eddie French

"All of this is something I knew was totally possible at a new venue as a result of all the successful shows that have been on at the Duke's Comedy Night over the past year and a half. Those nights are still running strong by the way, with the latest one being held tomorrow and the next one on January 17."

Taking part in the December 6 gig will be Eleanor Mason, Alex Wilkie, Dom Hodgson,Rivka Uttley and headliner Eddie French, who says of himself: "Eddie French is a stand-up comedian. He likes to make noise. Some of that noise is jokes."

"Eddie is a good friend of mine whom I've gigged with numerous times in the past and thoroughly enjoyed it on each and every one of those occasions," says Daniel. "A man of many talents, including music and improv, he's fantastically entertaining from start to finish whenever he takes to the stage."

Eleanor Mason won the 2015 Burning Duck Student Comedian of the Year prize in York in a year when she also triumphed in The Glang Show competition.

Rivka Uttley: "engaging storyteller"

"With her distinctive, quirky and very interesting act, Eleanor graduated from the University of York Comedy Society, building her experiences of improv shows at the Edinburgh Fringe and writing for Reductress," says Daniel.

He is happy to let Alex Wilkie talk about himself in the third person. "Alex Wilkie likes watching movies, the smell after weather, and long twerks on the beach," says Wilkie. "He has trouble taking anything seriously, frequently to his and your detriment. Sometimes he's funny. His particular brand of humour is best enjoyed when he subverts your expectations and surprises you, so watch out for that."

Daniel takes over again to introduce Dom Hodgson: "As a large northern white bloke, you could mistake Dom Hodgson for any number of comedians on the circuit, but his tales will lead you in future conversations to go 'No, it was that one with the slightly ginger beard'," he says.

Completing the bill, Rivka Uttley is a blossoming talent with two and a half years on the circuit. "In that time Rivka's won Beat The Frog over in Preston, won the infamous title of King Gong at the Comedy Store in Manchester, and this year made the final of Funny Women 2016 competition," says Daniel. "I've gigged with her a number of times now and from the first time I saw her she reminded me a lot of Sarah Millican. She's an engaging storyteller with a performance style that contains equal parts charm and filth...which is something I'm always a fan of!"

Looking forward to hosting next month's show, Daniel concludes: "All of the acts on December's bill have gigged at the Duke's Comedy Night before and to great success, so I'm 100 per cent sure that the night will be packed with laughs from the word go. The gig is structured very much like the Duke's Comedy Nights with myself as the compere, doors opening at 8pm, show starting at 8.30 pm and split into two sections."
