SITTING Room Comedy Club is on the move to a new home for its monthly shows in York, switching to The Winning Post in Bishopthorpe Road with effect from Thursday's 8pm bill.

BBC Radio 4 veteran John Moloney headlines the launch night with support from the award-winning trio of John Scott, Harriet Kemsley and Phil Ellis.

Promoter Tom Taylor, a former Great Yorkshire Fringe New Comedian of the Year, says: "The Winning Post is a really great community pub and a perfect venue for comedy, plus it’s part of the Great British High Street of the Year.

"In addition to being one of the strongest quartets of comedians we've ever put on in York, our Winning Post launch comes complete with plenty of free parking and excellent drinks prices. Parking in York is always a struggle, so to have ample amounts of it is such a bonus. Together with reasonably priced drinks and a ticket price of only £10, it becomes a really good value night out. Winning on all fronts, if you’ll excuse the pun!"

Looking forward to John Moloney's set, Tom says: "John has been a professional comedian for more tyhan 20 years and headlines all the major comedy clubs around the world. I've worked with him many times and he blows me away on each occasion; so creative, sharp, classy and with some absolutely sublime punchlines.”

In 2015, Moloney’s BBC Radio 4 show The John Moloney Show was so well received, it was recommissioned immediately for a second series. Moloney was included in Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Stand-Ups and has appeared on BBC2's Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Grumpy Old Men.

York Press:

Harriet Kemsley: taking the middle spot

John Scott opens Thursday's show. "Another act I adore watching, John Scott had a superb start to his career as a member of the comedy sketch troupe Fish Supper, alongside Miles Jupp," says Tom.

"He won both the Foster’s Take the Mike competition and the Spike Milligan Award for New Talent and has gone on to become a highly sought-after headline act at comedy clubs up and down the country, also supporting Frankie Boyle, Tom Stade and Ross Noble on national tours.”

After supporting Isy Suttie and Katherine Ryan on their nationwide tours, Harriet Kemsley takes this month's middle spot.

“Harriet has performed stand-up on The One Show, The BBC Comedy Marathon and BBC Radio 1's Comedy Lounge. She's been invited on to Just For Laughs in Montreal to tape a set for Kevin Hart’s new network, LOL Live, and appeared as Daisy in Jo Brand’s new Channel 4 sitcom Damned," says Tom. "She's going to be a household name in a few years’ time, so this is a great opportunity to see her for just a tenner.”

Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Phil Ellis is the host and compère as Sitting Room settles into its new surroundings after exiting stage left from the Monkbar Hotel. Tickets are available from The Winning Post or at sittingroomcomedy.com
